UTZ and Associates Architects Office

When UAA decided to design and construct a new office of our own in 2016, we had a vision of a building not only to house our day to day operations, but to also showcase our favorite materials, design ideas and green building principles.
As with any good design project, site and building orientation are some of the first items to consider. With a predominantly south facing site, natural light was a key element to consider in the design. The use of large operable windows with low-E glazing allows for a bright and airy interior while keeping heat gain to a minimum. To reduce solar glare on the interior, aluminum louvered shades structures were place on the southern façade. Natural looking but durable materials were chosen for exterior including, faux stone made from concrete, a wood-look vertical cladding also made from cement and natural toned horizontal ribbed metal panels. To aid in energy efficiency of the building, a solar panel array was mounted to a portion of the buildings roof. During the longest days of summer, these panels generate nearly 100% of the energy required by the building.
